Night: who wakes up and what happens

At night the town falls asleep, and roles wake in turn — mafia, don, sheriff, then prostitute and doctor — each making their move in secret while the rest sleep.

In short

  • Roles wake in turn: mafia, don, sheriff, then prostitute and doctor. Roles that aren't in the game are skipped.
  • While you sleep, you can't see or hear those who woke.
  • When you're awake, you see the whole table, to choose a target, but hear only those who woke with you.
  • The mafiosi must agree: a shot counts only if every living mafioso picked the same person.
  • A role whose players are already dead still “wakes up”, so the rhythm of the night doesn't tell you who's alive.

Who does what:

  • Mafia: all the mafiosi wake together and pick one victim. You can shoot any living player except a player with immunity.
  • Don: shoots together with the mafia, and also checks one player: is he the sheriff?
  • Sheriff: checks one player and learns whether he's mafia or not.
  • Prostitute: chooses who to take speech and vote away from tomorrow.
  • Doctor: chooses who to save, from a shot and from the prostitute's block.

Citizens sleep at night. On the acquaintance night only the mafia wake — there's a separate article about it.

What you see and hear. If you're asleep, the screen is dark and you see only a card with the name of the role that is awake now. You can't see or hear the others. If you're awake, you see the whole table, to choose a target, but you hear only those who woke with you. Mafiosi also see which of their team are awake. Eliminated players and observers who chose to show roles see and hear everything. Who is waking up now is announced by the host: a live one by voice, the automatic one with a voiced phrase.

How long the night lasts. With the automatic host each role gets a few seconds for its move, and the room owner can change the length. Once a role has made its move, there's a short pause, and the next one wakes. With a live host, the host sets the time: he wakes the roles himself and decides when morning comes.
