Observers and ghosts

An observer is a person who doesn't play in the room but just watches. A ghost is a player who was killed and stayed to watch, knowing everyone's roles.

In short

  • An observer can't be seen or heard at the table, and doesn't need a camera or microphone.
  • You can observe from the game list (“Observe”) or from the invitation page (“Watch the game”), if the owner allowed observers.
  • An observer chooses for themselves whether to watch with roles open or hidden, and can change their mind.
  • A ghost is a killed player who agreed to stay as a spectator: they see roles and night actions and write in the dead chat, but can't play any more.
  • You can't go back to normal mode from being a ghost; after the match the ghost disappears, and the observer stays.

Observer. This is a person who doesn't play: they have no seat at the table, no role, no window in the video grid, they don't talk or vote, they only see and hear the game. You can enter with the “Observe” button next to a room in the game list (into a private one — with the password) or with “Watch the game” on the invitation page. You need an account with a confirmed email. Observers' names are shown only in the participant list. It won't work if the owner switched off “Allow observers” (those already watching stay) or if there isn't a single player in the room.

Roles and chat. When you enter as an observer, you choose: “With open roles” (you see every player's role) or “With hidden roles” (you watch like an ordinary player). Changed your mind — the “Show roles” or “Hide roles” button in the panel where your role is shown. Observers have their own chat, “Observers”, and in the dead chat they can only read. After the match ends, the observer stays and watches the next game.

Ghost. When you're killed, after your last word the game offers “Become a Ghost?”. If you agree, you see every player's role and their night actions and can write in the dead chat. A ghost can't play: they don't talk or vote. If you declined, you can bring the offer back with the “Become a Ghost” button in the panel where your role is shown. When the match ends, the ghost status disappears, and you start the next game like everyone else.

Inviting an observer to play. Between matches, while the game hasn't started, and if there's a free seat, whoever runs the room can invite an observer with the “Invite to play” button next to their name in the participant list. The observer sees a “Become a player?” window and decides for themselves; if they agree, they sit down at the table and are offered to turn on the camera and microphone.
