Lost connection: what happens to your seat, role and time

The connection dropped: the game tries to reconnect you by itself. Your seat at the table is held for about a minute and a half, the role stays yours, but the game doesn't wait for you.

In short

  • The game tries to restore the connection by itself until it succeeds: you don't need to press anything.
  • The seat at the table is held for about a minute and a half. If you come back sooner, you play on as you were.
  • The game doesn't wait: speeches, voting and the night keep going. If you miss the vote, your vote goes to a random candidate.
  • The role stays yours even after the seat is freed. You can return with the “Return to game” button on the main page or by the room link.
  • Closing the tab or refreshing the page also counts as a drop, with the same allowance. The “Leave Game” button frees the seat at once.

What you see. While the video is connecting, “Video: reconnecting...” shows on the screen, and when the connection is weak, “Poor connection” or “Video is not streaming”. A message “Video connection lost — reconnecting…” may also pop up briefly. All of this passes by itself: the game keeps trying until it works, and when you're back it shows right away what is happening now. If you had your camera on, other players at this time see an avatar and the text “Connection issues” on your window.

If the video is closed for good, a message with a “Rejoin” button appears and doesn't go away by itself. An example is when you joined the game from another device: “You joined the game from another tab or device. This session was closed.” The “Rejoin” button reloads the page.

What happens to the game. The game doesn't pause and doesn't wait for someone who dropped:

  • Seat. For about a minute and a half it stays yours: that's enough to switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or ride out a short drop. If you come back in time, you play on as you were.
  • Role. It doesn't change or disappear, even when your seat has already been freed.
  • Time. Speeches, voting and the night keep going, the same for everyone. If you miss the vote, your vote goes to a random candidate. The night doesn't wait either: the mafia's move, for example, won't wait for a shot from someone who dropped.

Closing the tab or refreshing the page is also a drop, with the same allowance. The “Leave Game” button, on the other hand, frees the seat at once (in the middle of a game, the game first asks if you're sure).

How to come back once the seat has been freed. Open the main page: in the room list, next to your game, there will be a “Return to game” button. The same room link works too. Your role is waiting for you, and someone who left by accident comes back the same way.
