Sound and music
The game has night music, sound effects and the automatic host's voice. Each has its own volume: in the game with the arrow by the microphone button, outside the game in your profile.
In short
- Three separate controls: music, sound effects and the host's voice.
- Music plays only at night; there's none by day. On a phone and tablet it's off at first, on a computer it's on.
- Sound settings: in the game, the arrow by the microphone button and the gear; outside the game, Profile, “Settings”, “Audio”.
- The voice exists only in a room with the automatic host and calls players by seat number, not nickname; the text of the announcement stays on screen.
- “Noise removal” isn't about what you hear but about what others hear: it muffles the keyboard, the dog and conversations nearby in your microphone.
What you hear.
- Night music. Plays only at night: it starts soon after the night begins and fades at dawn. By day there's none: it would be heard through the microphones and get in the way of conversation.
- Sound effects: the start of night and morning, the dealing of the cards, night actions, a new message in the game chat, the victory tune, and also the ticking of a clock when your speech time is running out and during the vote.
- The automatic host's voice. Announces the phases: night, roles waking, morning, speeches, voting, the result, the end of the game. It speaks in your interface language and calls players by seat number (the same as in the player list), not by nickname. While it speaks, the music gets quieter. The same announcement is always on screen as text too.
Where to adjust it. In the game, press the arrow by the microphone button (on a phone, tap “⋮” first), choose the gear “Audio Settings”, and when you're done, “Done”. Outside the game, the same is in your profile: the “Settings” tab, the “Audio” section. There you'll find “Music Volume” and “Host voice” (a switch and a slider), “Sound Effects” (a slider) and “Noise removal” (more on it below). Next to each sound there's a button to listen. Effects and voice are adjusted separately: you can turn the effects down and not lose the phase announcements. Everything is remembered on this device.
If you can't hear something.
- No music. On phones and tablets it's off at first, so weak devices heat up less; on a computer it's on. Turn on the “Music Volume” switch — it starts right away if it's night now. By day there's none in any case.
- Can't hear the host's voice. It exists only in a room with the automatic host. Check that “Host voice” is on and the slider isn't at zero. If you joined in the middle of a phase or came back after a dropout, an announcement that has already passed isn't spoken; the text stays.
“Noise removal” is about what others hear. The switch cleans the sound of your microphone of the keyboard, the dog and conversations nearby. It's on by default. You can change it even in the middle of a game: the microphone restarts for a moment, but if you were muted, you stay muted. On iPhone and iPad there's no switch: the system cleans the sound there itself. It's also missing where the browser can't do this.
