Game chat

The game chat is the text conversation at the table. Living players write in the general chat, while the dead and observers have their own separate chats.

In short

  • The whole room can see the general chat, but only living players and the host can write in it.
  • Once you're out of the game, the general chat is read-only for you, and you can write in the “Dead Chat” tab.
  • Observers read the general chat and the dead chat, and write in their own “Observers” chat.
  • Messages are up to 300 characters; on a computer Enter sends, on a phone the arrow button does.
  • When the chat is closed or hidden, new messages pop up as a notification, and the chat button shows the number of unread ones.

Where the chat is and who writes where. On a computer the chat is in the right-hand column, and on a phone and tablet it opens with a round button with a speech bubble at the side of the screen. There are three channels:

  • “General”: the whole room sees it, and living players and the host write in it;
  • “Dead Chat”: eliminated players, ghosts and the host write there, and living players don't see this chat;
  • “Observers”: the host and observers write there.

Tabs appear only for the dead, observers and the host; a living player sees a single chat. When you're killed, you stay a reader in the general chat and move to “Dead Chat” to write. Observers only read the general chat and the dead chat.

How to write. Type your text and press Enter; Shift+Enter starts a new line. On a phone the arrow button sends, and Enter starts a new line. The length is up to 300 characters. Next to your own message there are “Edit” and “Delete” buttons (deleting asks for confirmation), and an edited message is marked “(edited)”. The host can delete other people's messages too. On a computer, hover over a message to pick a reaction; a double click adds a heart.

New messages. While the chat is closed (phone) or hidden (computer), a new message pops up as a notification with the author's name; tap it to open the chat. The chat button shows the number of unread messages, and an “Unread messages” line shows where you left off. The notification has a button that turns the message sound on and off.
