Live host: when a person runs the game
A live host is a player in the room who doesn't play themselves but runs the game by hand: starts the day and night, gives the floor, wakes the roles and runs the voting.
In short
- Whoever created the room without the automatic host becomes the host; before the start, hosting can be handed to someone else.
- The host doesn't play: no role, no vote, they belong to no team and get no rating.
- They see every player's role and the night actions; their window can be seen and heard in any phase.
- The host takes one seat at the table: the game needs at least 4 players, not counting them.
- If the host leaves in the middle of a game, the room is left without a host, and the match is restarted.
What they do. The host starts the game with the “Start Game” button, switches day and night, gives the floor to players in turn, wakes the roles at night, opens and stops voting, gives the last word to whoever is leaving, and at the end finishes the game. The host sets the pace themselves. A step-by-step description is in the article “How to run a game: a host's guide”.
What they see and what they can't do. The host sees the players' roles, and at night also who is shooting whom, who is being healed and who is being checked; in the morning they're shown the night summary. The host themselves can be seen and heard by everyone in any phase. They can't play: no role, no vote, and they belong to no team.
How it differs from the automatic host.
- They take one seat at the table: the game needs at least 4 players, not counting them.
- The host starts free talk (“chaos time”) and immunity themselves, and the game only reminds them about those. The game also only hints at the end of the game: the host confirms the winner.
- They can give the floor by hand, put a player to sleep and wake them, give immunity, “kill” or “revive” a player, block a microphone and kick someone from the room.
How to become the host and how to hand over hosting. Whoever created the room without the automatic host becomes the host. Before the game starts, hosting can be handed over: in the “⋮” menu on a player's window there's “Make GM”. You can switch to the automatic host in the game settings, also only before the start. If the host leaves before the game starts, another player becomes the host. If they leave in the middle of the game, the room is left without a host: the match will soon be restarted, and one of the remaining players is appointed the new host.
