How to run a game: a host's guide
The host runs the game in a circle — start, night, morning, speeches, voting — using the host panel, the “⋮” menu on a player's window and the host menu at the bottom of the screen.
In short
- Before your first game, take the “Host” track in the sandbox: it's a few minutes, and hosting without preparation is genuinely hard.
- Start is the “Start Game” button; it's active when there are at least 4 players at the table, not counting you.
- At night you wake the roles in turn: mafia, don, sheriff, then prostitute and doctor.
- By day you give the floor around the circle, open voting, give the chosen player a last word and switch to night.
- You keep order at the table with the “⋮” menu on a player's window; you finish the game when the app shows who won.
Start. In the lobby wait for the players and press “Start Game”: the button becomes active when there are at least 4 players at the table, not counting you. If there are two or more mafiosi, the game starts with “Dealing the cards” (day 0): switch to night, that's the acquaintance night with no shots, and wake only the mafia. If there's one mafioso, the game starts straight with day 1. If the room has manual role selection, you can pick a card for the player whose turn it is.
Night. Switch to “Night”. On the night panel, under the “Wake up:” label, wake the roles in turn: mafia, don, sheriff, and after the sheriff the prostitute and doctor in any order. If there's one mafioso, there's no separate mafia button, and the don wakes first. A button for a role whose time hasn't come yet is inactive (“Wake up the preceding roles first”). When you wake the next role, the previous one falls asleep; “All sleep” puts everyone to sleep. On a phone, instead of buttons there are arrows to the previous and next role and a list of roles. You see the night actions on the players' windows. When the night is over, switch to “Day”: the night summary opens, and from there you can give a last word to whoever was killed. You can open the summary again with the “View Night Results” button at the bottom of the screen.
Day. From day 2, in the morning, the game reminds you about “chaos time” (if it's switched on) — free talk for everyone; you can start it in the host menu. Then:
- speeches: “Start speeches”, then “Next speaker” (or “Give Speech” in the “⋮” menu on a player's window). Whoever is speaking can nominate a suspect, and you can do it in their place;
- voting: “Start Voting” on the voting panel. It closes by itself when everyone has voted or time is up; “Stop Voting” closes it earlier;
- the result: you'll see who was chosen; give them a last word; then remove the player (“⋮” on their window, “Kill”) and switch to night;
- a tie: for the first one — “Candidate Speeches” or “Restart vote”, for a repeated one — only “Finish voting”, with nobody eliminated.
Order at the table. The “⋮” menu on a player's window has “Give Speech”, “Put to sleep” and “Wake up” (at night), “Block microphone”, “Grant immunity”, “Kill” and “Revive”, “Kick from game”. The microphone and camera buttons on the window turn them on and off for a single player. The host menu at the bottom of the screen has “Mute All”, “Disable All Cameras”, “Start Chaos”, “Game Settings” (before the start), “Restart Game” and “Finish Game”. When the winner is obvious, the app itself opens an “End Game” window with a hint, and you confirm. A kicked player will no longer be able to get back into this room.
