Tutorial: a practice game in the sandbox
The tutorial is a safe practice game on the real interface with no other people. You take it in your profile, on the “Learning” tab; it doesn't touch your statistics or rating.
In short
- The sandbox is a full game cycle with hints, but with no other people and no risk.
- You'll find it in your profile on the “Learning” tab; until you finish the basic course, the game itself will remind you about the tutorial.
- There are six tracks: “Basic training”, “Sheriff”, “Doctor”, “Prostitute”, “Don” and “Host”.
- The hints lead step by step: where a highlighted action is needed, “Next” opens only after you do it; “Back” goes back a step.
- A track counts when you reach the end; a finished one can be taken again.
What it is. The sandbox is a practice game on the game's real interface, but without other players: the participants are imaginary, and nothing you do goes into the statistics, rating or achievements. That way you can go through the whole game cycle on your own, see how everything looks by day and at night, and try your actions without spoiling anything for real tables. The browser may ask for permission to use the camera: it's shown only on your own window and isn't sent to anyone, and without permission there's just an avatar.
Until the basic course is done, the game will remind you about the tutorial by itself. The reminder can be postponed or turned off for good.
What tracks there are. In your profile, on the “Learning” tab, you see a checklist and progress such as “Your progress 2 / 6”.
- “Basic training” — worth starting with: what's on the screen, how night and day come, how to nominate a player and vote.
- “Sheriff”, “Doctor”, “Prostitute” — short drills: you do your role's night action.
- “Don” — you shoot with the mafia and then check a player for the sheriff, so it doubles as practice for the mafia.
- “Host” — the host panel: starting the game, day and night, the floor, voting, night calls, “kill” and “revive”, kicking.
You can launch the basic course with the button below, and the other tracks on the “Learning” tab.
How to go through it. The hints highlight the right place on the screen and tell you what to do. Some steps wait for your action: tap the highlighted player or the role card, and only then “Next” appears. “Back” goes back a step without erasing what you've already done. On the last step press “Finish”: the track is counted, you return to the “Learning” tab, a mark appears next to the track, and the button becomes “Retake”. Progress is saved in your account.
