The megaphone and the mic lock

While another player is talking, your microphone is locked. To throw in a remark, press the megaphone: it opens your microphone for 5 seconds, and the next shout is possible 15 seconds after the previous one.

In short

  • During someone else's speech you can't turn your own microphone on: the microphone button has a lock. You can turn it off at any time.
  • The megaphone opens the microphone for 5 seconds and closes it by itself; from the start of one shout to the start of the next, 15 seconds pass.
  • Everyone who votes today has the megaphone: a living player, not the host and not blocked by the prostitute. There's no button at night.
  • While you're shouting, everyone sees the “shout” mark on your window.
  • To talk longer than the megaphone allows, you need the host's permission.

The lock on the microphone. During someone else's speech the table stays quiet. While another player has the floor (a speech, a last word, a candidate's defense), you can't turn your own microphone on: a lock appears on the microphone button, and a tooltip explains why. It isn't a fault. You can turn your own microphone off at any time. Outside someone else's speech (in the lobby, during the vote, between speakers, at night) there's no lock.

The megaphone. To throw in a remark from your seat, press the megaphone button: your microphone opens for 5 seconds and then closes by itself. After that the megaphone recharges, and from the start of one shout to the start of the next, 15 seconds pass. The ring on the button shows how much is left: first until the end of the shout, then until it's ready. On a computer the button sits in the bottom bar to the right of the microphone and camera, and on a phone and tablet it's the last of the round buttons at the side of the screen.

Who can use it and when. The megaphone is for everyone who has a vote today: a living player, not the host and not blocked by the prostitute. All day the button stays in place, but it can be pressed only during someone else's speech; the rest of the time it's dimmed with the tooltip “The megaphone works during another player's speech”. There is no button at night. The dead, ghosts and observers have no megaphone, and neither does the tutorial. If you need to talk longer, ask the host for the floor (in a room with the automatic host, the room owner): they can open your microphone with the button on your window until the end of that speech.
