Dealing the roles
Before the start everyone gets a secret role: the cards are shuffled and dealt automatically, or players pick them in turn themselves. Only you see your role.
In short
- Before the start everyone gets a secret role, and only you see it.
- Usually the cards are shuffled and dealt to everyone automatically. The room owner can choose otherwise: then players pick cards in turn themselves.
- The whole table is shown the game composition: how many mafia, citizens and special roles are in the game. Who is who isn't shown.
- You can't choose a role: it's all chance.
- Read your role — press “Got my role”. The game moves on when everyone has.
Automatic dealing. The cards are shuffled and dealt to everyone automatically, so you see your role card at once. If a live person runs the game, they see everyone's roles; the others see only their own.
If players pick the cards. The cards lie face down. When your turn comes, a signal sounds: click any free card, it flies to your window, and you see your role. Others see that you took a card but don't know which. All the cards look the same from above, so it's pure chance.
What next. Once the roles are dealt, the whole table is shown the game composition: how many mafia, citizens and special roles are in this game, but not who is who. Then there's time to read your role and think what to do with it. Whoever is ready presses “Got my role”, and a yellow check mark appears on their video. When everyone is ready, the game moves on. Next comes either the acquaintance night (if there are two or more mafiosi) or the first day right away.
